Robert Ripley relishes the freedom that is inherently part of independent filmmaking and excels at realizing high production value with tight budgets by leveraging professional relationships and technology.

Ripley brings rich and diverse personal experiences to bear in his work. In his “former life” he was a musician, having both performed and instructed, and those experiences were fundamental in shaping both his artistic and producing approach to storytelling for the screen.

PHILOSOPHY & APPROACH

As a filmmaker, Ripley fervently believes that the advent of technology and new business models have created opportunities for independent artists to garner a more substantial share of the market and retain creative control over their projects.

He grounds his working process in: collaboration, respectful communication, honoring the writer’s intention, and defining success through the achievement of clearly articulated artistic and financial objectives. To that end, he is committed to continually building a network of industry professionals who approach their work with similar values.

As a director, he strives to create a safe environment in which everyone on the artistic and production teams are inspired to contribute and take risks creating stories that engage audiences with images, ideas, characters and themes.

PERSONAL

R.B. Ripley is a two-time Nicholl's Fellowship quarterfinalist, a Chesterfield Writer's Program semi-finalist; He is a 2004 & 2007 recipient of the Alfred & Trafford Klots Artist Residency in Rochefort-en-Terre, France and a 2003 recipient of the Family Friendly Programming Award. His plays have been seen across the U.S. and in Germany. He has worked in film development at Disney, Paramount and Cruise | Wagner and holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from Carnegie Mellon's School of Drama and a BFA in Music from the University of Houston's Moores School of Music. Ripley is a Pittsburgh native and has since lived and worked in Texas, Wyoming, Boston and New York. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his partner of nine years and their two rescued pups.
